Parents and guardians

We know that selecting a career is not an easy decision for someone leaving school, college or university, with so many things to consider such as career opportunity and long term development, earning prospects and job security. We also appreciate there is a lot of choice in an ever changing economy, making it even harder to choose a prospective employer or even know what type of role to apply for!  A parent or guardian’s role in supporting this decision is crucial.

Taylor Wimpey can offer several reassurances around the future career prospects of current school leavers and graduates. As one of the longest standing and most well established house builders in the UK, we are able to offer sustainable and rewarding careers in an industry that is sensitive to economic change. Most of our senior leaders have been with the business over 15 years and our average retention rate for employees joining the business in any of these entry level roles is extremely high against the UK average.

We also have a huge amount of choice for future talent around possible career paths. From on-site roles like trade apprenticeships and site management to office based, roles like Finance, Customer Services and Sales, all these disciplines have clearly defined progression within the business. We offer industry leading training across all business functions, ensuring that our entry level talent are able to reach their full potential whatever their choice of position.

Our partnerships in education and training boards like the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) and Buckinghamshire Technical College show that we are serious about hiring future talent. We look forward to developing these relationships further as well as building new bridges on a regional level with schools, colleges and universities. If you would like more general information about roles in construction and possible career paths then please visit CITB’s GoConstruct site.

If you value the ethical practices of prospective employers for your son or daughter then it may be worth noting some of the contributions we make to individual communities in which we build. Millions of pounds each year is spent via our Section 106 and Section 75 planning obligations. Find out more via our annual report here.
